We are recruiting for the following position:

  • Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant
  • Mainstream primary school
  • London Borough of Barking & Dagenham
  • Immediate start
  • £100.00 per day (PAYE – no umbrella companies)

Our client school is based in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham. They are part of an All-Through school with over 1,000 students on roll. They have a number of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and you will play a lead role in supporting those children.

What will you be doing in a typical day?

  • Supporting SEND students in accessing the curriculum
  • Supervising SEND students both inside and outside the classroom; assisting with break times, lunch times and trips as well as extra-curricular activities
  • Using positive strategies and good behaviour management to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students
  • Working closely with class teachers and other professionals towards achieving the best outcomes for SEND students

What skills would serve you well in this role?

  • The most important skill is a positive mindset and a passion for supporting SEND students; there will be professional development opportunities available within the role
  • Experience of working with SEND or vulnerable people in a previous role; this could include in schools and also in settings such as healthcare, social care, community or youth work
  • It is essential that you have good emotional intelligence and empathy for SEND students
