When we launched Black Leadership Job Board, we weren’t trying to reinvent the wheel. We built it because we saw something that needed to change. Too many talented Black professionals were being overlooked, undervalued, or shut out of leadership opportunities — not because they lacked skills or ambition, but because the system wasn’t designed with them in mind. We kept hearing the same stories:

“I’ve applied for dozens of senior roles with no feedback.”
“I rarely see people who look like me in leadership meetings.”
“I feel like I have to work twice as hard to be seen as half as good.”

And frankly, we were tired of it. So, we did something about it.

The Problem We Saw

In every sector — from education and healthcare to government and business — leadership roles remain overwhelmingly white. That’s not just a coincidence. It’s the result of systemic issues that go way deeper than recruitment.

We’re talking about:

  • Unconscious bias in hiring panels
  • Lack of access to the networks and sponsorships that open doors
  • A culture of ‘fit’ that often means ‘more of the same’
  • And the exhaustion of constantly having to prove your worth in spaces that weren’t built for you

The talent is out there, that’s never been the issue. What’s missing is the visibility, the opportunity, and the intention from employers to do better.

Organisations are missing out on incredible leaders — people with lived experience, resilience, cultural insight, and a different lens that’s desperately needed at decision-making tables.

That’s the gap we saw. And that’s the gap we’re here to close.

What We’re Here to Do

By now, most organisations know there’s a problem. They’ve sat through the DEI training. They’ve seen the stats. They’ve written the statements.

But awareness isn’t action. It’s not enough to talk about diversity — we need to actually do something about it.

That’s where we come in. Black Leadership Job Board exists to turn intention into impact. We help employers who are serious about change connect with Black professionals who are more than ready to lead — they just need the opportunity.

It’s simple, really:

  • Put leadership opportunities where Black professionals can actually see them.
  • Create hiring processes that are fair, transparent, and free from bias.
  • Stop recycling the same talent from the same networks.

We’re here because things need to change — and change only happens when employers start doing instead of just saying. It’s time to put more opportunities out there. It’s time to give people a fair shot. Not based on what they look like — but based on what they bring to the table.

Let’s Talk About Inclusion — For Everyone

Now and then, we get emails or comments saying things like:
“Isn’t this racist?” or “What about everyone else?”

We get it. These conversations can make people uncomfortable. But let’s clear something up: This isn’t about excluding anyone. It’s about including those who’ve historically been left out.

The reality is, Black professionals — and people from ethnic minority backgrounds more broadly — still don’t have equal access to leadership opportunities. Not because they’re not capable, but because the system hasn’t been fair.

We use ‘Black’ as an inclusive term, one that recognises the shared impact of racism on a wide range of communities. But at the heart of what we do is one simple belief:

Everyone should have the chance to succeed, no matter their background, age, race, gender or anything else.

Right now, the playing field isn’t level. That’s why this work matters. We’re not here to shut anyone out. We’re here to lift people up — so that one day, things like race won’t determine who gets to lead.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud of what we’ve built so far — thousands of candidates, hundreds of employers, and real change happening in real workplaces. But we’re not done. Not even close.

Because the truth is, equity doesn’t just happen on its own. It takes consistent work. It takes people who care enough to challenge the status quo. And it takes organisations who are willing to do more than just post a job — but actually reflect on who gets to lead, and why.

So, whether you’re a Black professional looking for your next step, or an employer ready to start doing things differently — you’re in the right place. We’ll keep doing what we do. Because leadership should look like all of us.
