Support Worker – Young People’s Service

📍 Location: Lewisham

💷 Pay: £17.76ph PAYE / £23.44ph Umbrella

🕒 Contract Length: 13 weeks

📅 Shifts: Early 07:30-15:30 | Late 14:00-22:00

🚉 Nearest Station: New Cross Gate (8-10 mins walk)

🚗 Driving Licence & Car: Desirable but not essential

Are you passionate about supporting young people at risk of homelessness and care leavers?

We’re recruiting for a dedicated Support Worker to join a 5-bed supported housing service in Lewisham. This service works with young people aged 16-17 who are at risk of homelessness, as well as care leavers aged 18-21, helping them gain independence and stability in a safe, structured environment.

🔹 Key Responsibilities

  • Empower residents through life coaching, meaningful activity planning, and one-to-one support.
  • Build life skills – support with budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and day-to-day independence.
  • Offer trauma-informed support, responding with empathy to young people’s experiences.
  • Promote community engagement to help residents feel connected and included.
  • Guide residents through future planning and personal goal setting.
  • Assist with benefit applications and attend necessary appointments.
  • Maintain high housing standards, including safety checks and reporting maintenance issues.
  • Support rent collection and manage arrears according to policy.
  • Safeguard residents, responding swiftly and appropriately to any concerns.

🔹 What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting vulnerable young people, preferably in a housing or supported living setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and trauma-informed practice.
  • Comfortable with lone working and a hands-on, person-centred approach.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude across shift patterns.

🔹 Additional Info

  • This is an on-site role – no remote working.
  • You’ll manage one property with on-site duties.
  • Mileage claims (if applicable) are calculated from the nearest office to the property.
  • You will report to the Team Leader and Service Lead.
