Temporary Accommodation Officer
Slough Borough Council
3 – 6 Months Contract
Umbrella Rate Between £25 – £30 Per hour
We are seeking a skilled Temporary Accommodation Officer with extensive experience managing accommodations under Part 7, Section 188, and Section 193 of the Housing Act 1996. The role involves sourcing, managing, and maintaining temporary housing solutions for homeless applicants in line with statutory duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage Temporary Accommodation Placements: Allocate temporary housing to individuals and families in accordance with Section 188 (interim duty) and Section 193 (main housing duty) requirements.
Assess Housing Needs: Conduct assessments to identify suitable accommodation based on individual circumstances and legal obligations.
Liaise with Stakeholders: Work closely with landlords, housing providers, and support services to secure and maintain temporary housing.
Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all placements comply with Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996, maintaining accurate records and adhering to council policies.
Client Support: Provide advice and support to residents, ensuring they understand their rights and responsibilities while in temporary accommodation.
Requirements:
Proven experience in managing temporary accommodation within a local authority setting.
In-depth knowledge of Parts 6 & 7 of the Housing Act 1996, specifically Sections 188 and 193.
Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in using housing management systems (e.g., Northgate, Locata, Jigsaw).
Ability to handle a demanding caseload with empathy and professionalism.
