I am working with a public sector regulator looking to recruit a policy manager on a Fixed term basis.

What we are looking for

· Experience of leading high profile policy projects, using robust project management techniques to develop and implement a range of approaches to policy problems.

· Understanding of the regulatory context and how this shapes approaches to regulation in the legal sector

· Ability to build influential relationships with senior level internal and external stakeholders

· A strong decision maker, with ability to produce practical and clear conclusions to complex issues.

· Ability to produce a range of documents to an exceptional standard, including board papers and consultations documents

· Ability to work at pace to challenging deadlines, juggling a number of competing priorities

Further information:

· Ideal skillset for this role is a background in leading policy development in central government departments or for other large regulators / public bodies. We will be looking for experience in developing and implementing complex policies which have wide-ranging impacts, and an ability to navigate stakeholders with competing interests.

· This will be for a period until the end of November 2025, but very much likely to be extended to 18 – 24 months.

· The roles are on a fixed term basis, and circa £67,000 if London based.

· The ability to thrive and work autonomously (and at pace – sometimes with changing priorities and deadlines) is key. Candidates will need to be a self-starter who can get up to speed on new and complex issues quickly, prioritise effectively, build positive relationships, grasp and communicate technical issues with clarity and work with a wide range of stakeholders (internal and external) to deliver constructive outcomes.

It is an outcome focused role – and the issues the programme are looking at are highly interesting – there’s a lot of intellectual appeal – so complexity and the ability to scythe through that (effectively and efficiently) is going to be key. These are project-based roles, so an understanding of project management, milestones and working in a matrix environment is important. You won’t be fully line managing colleagues – but as this is a senior role there will be some task management and of course you won’t be operating in isolation. They would expect to see a real depth and breadth of policy knowledge and experience – including working on high profile pieces of work – end to end and with considerable (and demonstrable) impact.
