Payroll & Pensions Coordinator

Morgan Hunt are working with a College based in Hackney who are looking at recruiting a Payroll & Pensions Coordinator. This is a 3-month contract role paying up to £22 p/hour. This will be based 5 days p/week in the office.

Key Responsibilities of the Payroll & Pensions Coordinator:

  • Support and deputise for the Head of Payroll and Pensions, ensuring accurate payroll processing and timely payments for all staff.
  • Oversee the effective and efficient administration of pensions for the college and third-party pension providers.
  • Maintain and operate the college’s payroll system, ensuring compliance with legislation and internal policies, including tax, National Insurance, and pension deductions.
  • Process expenses, overtime claims, and ensure correct costings are applied, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as the main contact for payroll queries and support staff with accessing payroll information such as payslips and P60s.
  • Assist with audit processes, pension returns, and keep up to date with relevant legislation and procedural changes related to payroll and pensions.

Previous Skills and Experience of the Payroll & Pensions Coordinator:

  • Experience in a payroll department handling 500+ employees, with knowledge of payroll legislation and deductions (essential).
  • Strong understanding of SSP, SMP, Tax Credits, PAYE, and desirable knowledge of P11Ds; experience with pension deductions in education is a plus.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills for dealing with staff, managers, and external agencies (essential).
  • Ability to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and meet strict deadlines under pressure (essential).
  • Experience with computerised payroll systems is required, with knowledge of I Trent being advantageous but not essential.
