YMCA Trinity Group is seeking an experienced Chair of Trustees to provide inspiring leadership to our Board as we deliver life-changing services to communities across Eastern England.
About Us
YMCA Trinity Group is one of the largest regional YMCAs in the UK, supporting over 10,000 children, young people and adults every year across Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, and Peterborough. Our work spans housing and homelessness, early years provision, youth and family services, emotional wellbeing and health and fitness.
Operating with an annual income of over £15 million, we are a complex, regulated organisation with ambitious plans for growth and impact. Our new Chair will play a pivotal role in shaping that journey.
The Role
As Chair, you will lead our Board of Trustees in setting strategic direction, ensuring strong governance and supporting our Chief Executive and leadership team. You will be a key ambassador for the charity bringing gravitas, integrity and influence while leading a cohesive and high-performing Board.
We’re looking for a Chair who can challenge and support in equal measure, facilitate open and effective discussion and foster a collaborative and inclusive culture at Board level. You’ll ensure compliance with charity law and best practice in governance while maintaining a clear focus on our mission and values.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience:
· Senior leadership experience in a complex organisation with £15m+ income.
· A confident and skilled Chair with a track record of leading high-level meetings and driving board effectiveness.
· Strong commercial acumen and sound business judgement.
· Strategic thinker with experience of shaping long-term plans.
· Experience of operating in a regulated environment.
· An understanding of charity governance and non-executive leadership.
· Authentic commitment to the values and purpose of YMCA.
Desirable Experience:
· Experience of the charity, public or voluntary sector.
· Familiarity with Nolan Principles and governance best practices.
· Knowledge of sectors we operate in (housing, care and support or education, early years, children, youth and families).
· A background in volunteering or community engagement.
· Awareness of the social and economic challenges and opportunities facing communities in Eastern England.
What We Offer
This is an opportunity to make a profound and lasting difference in the lives of young people and vulnerable adults across our region. As Chair, you’ll work alongside a passionate and dedicated team, shape high-impact services, and leave a legacy of leadership, vision and service.
