Role Purpose

The Temporary Accommodation Move-On Officer is responsible for delivering effective move-on support to households living in temporary accommodation across Slough. The role ensures that residents are assessed, supported, and guided towards sustainable long-term housing solutions, working proactively to reduce time spent in temporary accommodation and improve housing outcomes for vulnerable households.


Key Responsibilities

Move-On Case Management

  • Manage a caseload of households residing in temporary accommodation, providing tailored advice and support to progress them into suitable long-term housing.
  • Conduct assessments to identify housing needs, barriers, and support requirements, producing individual move-on plans.
  • Work with clients to increase tenancy readiness, including budgeting, welfare support, rent in advance planning, and understanding tenancy responsibilities.

Housing Solutions & Partnership Working

  • Liaise with internal teams such as Housing Options, Homelessness Prevention, Social Care, and Allocations to facilitate smooth transitions into permanent or supported accommodation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners including housing associations, private landlords, supported housing providers, and voluntary sector agencies.
  • Support clients to access the private rented sector where appropriate, including assisting with viewings, applications, deposits, and incentive schemes.

Temporary Accommodation Management

  • Monitor occupancy, move-on progress, and household needs within temporary accommodation placements.
  • Ensure timely and safe move-outs from TA, coordinating with landlords, providers, and contractors.
  • Identify households who are “stuck” in TA and intervene early to remove barriers to move-on.

Compliance, Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on case management systems in line with council procedures and statutory homelessness requirements.
  • Track outcomes, produce performance reports, and contribute to reducing the number of households in temporary accommodation.
  • Ensure all safeguarding concerns are escalated appropriately and act in accordance with safeguarding procedures.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working in homelessness, housing support, housing allocations, or related public-sector/social-care fields.
  • Strong knowledge of temporary accommodation processes, move-on pathways, and housing options (including PRS, social housing, and supported accommodation).
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work empathetically with vulnerable households.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a busy caseload, and meet performance targets.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation such as the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and safeguarding duties.

Desirable

  • Experience within a local authority housing service.
  • Knowledge of Slough’s local housing market and provider network.
  • Ability to speak additional community languages (advantageous but not required).

  • Location: Berkshire (office, accommodation sites, and community-based work)
  • Working Pattern: Monday – Friday 2/3 days in the office 2/3 days from home
