Make a Real Difference to a Student’s College Experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and dedicated Support Assistant to provide specialist support to a student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) within a college setting in Northamptonshire.

This role is integral to ensuring that students receive the support they need to access education, develop independence, and achieve their personal and academic goals. Working closely with teaching staff and support teams, you will help create an inclusive and nurturing environment that promotes student wellbeing, engagement, and success.

This is a variable hours position, with working hours determined by student timetables. We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible work arrangements and are happy to discuss availability for specific days or hours.

The Role

As a Support Assistant, you will provide personalised support throughout the college day, helping to ensure the student can fully participate in learning and wider college life.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with mobility and transportation across the college campus to ensure lessons and activities can be accessed effectively.
  • Providing personal care support where required, with dignity, professionalism, and respect.
  • Supporting participation in social, enrichment, and physical activities.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive engagement in college life.
  • Providing targeted classroom support, including:
    • Explaining tasks and instructions clearly.
    • Supporting differentiated learning activities.
    • Encouraging participation and engagement alongside peers.
  • Acting as a positive role model and advocate for the student.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and support services to meet individual learner needs.

About You

We are looking for a caring and reliable individual who is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential.

Essential Requirements

  • Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English or GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience working as a Personal Care Assistant or in a similar support role.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with students and build positive relationships.
  • A patient, empathetic, and supportive approach.
  • The ability to act as a positive role model.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to promoting student wellbeing, dignity, and inclusion.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting young people with EHCPs or additional learning needs.
  • Previous experience within an education or care environment.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and inclusive support practices.
