We are recruiting for the following position:

SEND Teaching Assistant

Barking & Dagenham based SEND school

Supporting SEND students with a wide variety of needs

September 2026 start

£550.00 per week

Our client school is based in Barking & Dagenham. Students are aged from 4-16 and have a variety of complex needs. These needs include: Moderate Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Communication Disorder and Profound and Multiple leaning difficulties. All students have an Education Health Care Plan and they require skilled and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to help put these plans into action.

What will you be doing in a typical day?

Supporting SEND students in accessing the curriculum

Taking responsibility for personal care duties as and when required

Supervising SEND students both inside and outside the classroom; assisting with break times, lunch times and trips as well as extra-curricular activities

Using positive strategies and good behaviour management to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students

Working closely with class teachers and other professionals towards achieving the best outcomes for SEND students

What skills would serve you well in this role?

The most important skill is a positive mindset and a passion for supporting SEND students; the school will train you as part of the role

Experience of working with SEND or vulnerable people in a previous role; this could include in schools and also in settings such as healthcare, social care, community or youth work

It is essential that you have good emotional intelligence and empathy for SEND students
