Progress Coach/ Learning Support Assistant – Prep4Life – Further Education College

Location: Merseyside
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (Agency Placement)
Pay Rate: £13.00 – £15.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established Further Education College in Manchester for a dedicated, patient, and supportive Progress Coach to join their Prep4Life Department from September 2026.

This is a rewarding full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting learners with high functioning learning difficulties and additional needs to develop the skills they need for independent adult life, both in the community and in future living and working environments.

What is Prep4Life?

The Prep4Life Department is a specialist provision designed to support learners who are not following traditional academic or vocational routes. Instead, the focus is on preparing young people for independence, including life skills, social development, community access, employability awareness, and supported living skills.

The aim is to help learners build confidence, routine, and practical independence skills to support their transition into adulthood.

The Role

As a Progress Coach, you will support learners with high functioning and complex learning needs to develop essential life skills in a structured, supportive, and person-centred environment. You will help students build independence, confidence, and resilience in everyday situations.

You will support learners with a range of needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Down syndrome
  • Learning difficulties (mild to moderate and complex needs)
  • ADHD
  • Social, emotional, and communication needs
  • Support needs relating to independence and daily living skills

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting learners in developing independent living skills (e.g. cooking, budgeting, travel training, personal organisation)
  • Promoting social development and confidence in community-based settings
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual independence goals
  • Supporting learners during life skills sessions and real-world learning experiences
  • Encouraging positive routines, decision-making, and personal responsibility
  • Supporting learners with personal care needs where required (including dignity, safety, and respect at all times)
  • Working closely with tutors, support staff, and families to track progress
  • Promoting a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Acting as a consistent, calm, and supportive role model

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience supporting young people or adults with learning difficulties, ASD, or additional needs
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • A strong understanding of promoting independence and life skills development
  • Confidence supporting learners in both classroom and community-based environments
  • Experience or willingness to support with personal care where required
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential

What’s on Offer?

  • Competitive pay of £13.00 – £15.00 per hour, depending on experience
  • Full-time, long-term role from September 2026
  • Opportunity to work in a specialist independent living and life skills provision
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated recruitment consultant
  • A highly rewarding role where you directly support learners to gain real independence for adulthood

If you are passionate about supporting learners to build confidence, independence, and real-life skills for the future, we would love to hear from you.
