We are looking for a compassionate, skilled Duty Worker to join our Children & Young People (CYP) team on a temporary basis. This role provides crisis intervention, referral management, and short-term support to LGBT+ young people experiencing domestic abuse or other forms of harm.

This is a fast-paced, front-door role ideal for someone who is confident managing urgent needs, responding to risk, and supporting young people at moments of crisis.

Key Responsibilities

As the Duty Worker, you will:

  • Triage and manage new CYP referrals coming into the service, ensuring timely allocation and initial support.
  • Act as the first point of contact for young people and referrers, providing crisis intervention, reassurance, and initial risk/needs assessments.
  • Provide short-term, practical support including safety planning, risk management, and information on housing, legal options, welfare, and health-related needs.
  • Balance a high-volume, rapidly changing duty inbox, prioritising urgent referrals and escalating risk appropriately.
  • Make effective signposts and referrals to specialist services, such as Social Care, MARAC, mental health support, and youth safeguarding pathways.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and safe responses for young people.

Skills & Experience We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children and young people affected by domestic abuse, safeguarding concerns, or other forms of abuse.
  • Strong understanding of CYP safeguarding, risk assessment, and safety planning.
  • Experience managing a busy triage or duty workload with multiple competing priorities.
  • Commitment to inclusive, by-and-for practice and an understanding of the needs and barriers faced by LGBT+ and TNBI young people.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to build trust with young people in crisis.

Who This Role Is For

This temporary post is ideal for someone who thrives in duty-based work, has strong safeguarding instincts, and is passionate about improving safety and outcomes for LGBT+ young people experiencing harm or instability.

If you’re committed to delivering responsive, inclusive, and empowering support for young people, we would love to hear from you.

Please note this post is only available to applicants from the LGBTQ+ community as permitted under the Equality Act 2010 as a Genuine Occupational Requirement.
