Interim Head of SEND & ALS

The Role

Working collaboratively with the ALS and SEND Management team to develop and deliver outstanding Group ALS and SEND provisions. Where all service delivery is of the highest quality, student-centred and maximises student achievement and progress.

Contributing to the strategic direction, growth, and stakeholder accountability of ALS and SEND, in partnership with the Assistant Principal Student Experience and Support.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following areas:

  • Provide leadership, management, and ongoing development for the ALS and SEND Support Management team to ensure high-quality learning support.
  • Offer guidance and professional development opportunities to maintain a high standard of service.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of training programs for staff to enhance their awareness and skills in teaching and supporting students with additional learning needs.
  • Ensure a robust process for maintaining quality service to students, whether in class, out of class, or in specialist teaching, in collaboration with quality and curriculum teams.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to establish, strengthen, and increase funding streams to support the growth of the provision and services to students.
  • Foster strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders related to SEND and ALS to maintain a responsive provision reflecting local and national trends and demands.

The Person

  • A degree or professional-level qualification in a relevant subject
  • Management Certificate/Diploma
  • Full teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, DET)
  • Specialist level 5 or above qualification in SpLD or similar
  • GCSE English Language and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or other Level 2 equivalent qualifications
  • Experience
  • Proven leadership experience in a similar role within education or a relevant field
  • Implementing change and driving improvements to working practices
  • In-depth knowledge of SEND, ALS, and inclusive education practices
  • Experience in budget management funding
  • Experience with ALS funding methodologies and high-needs allocations
  • Experience in managing a diverse team of people including staff recruitment managing performance and motivating staff to achieve the highest level of quality and performance
  • Experience in developing stakeholder relationships and attending committees/networks
  • Successful experience in meeting audit/inspection requirements including responding effectively to recommendations
