📍 Birmingham (Hybrid working available)

💼 Interim (timeframe to be confirmed)

💰 FTE Salary: £51,745 – £58,226

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced higher education professional to join our Academic Registry as an Interim Deputy Academic Registrar.

In this key leadership role, you will support the Academic Registrar in delivering high-quality, efficient, and compliant services across the student lifecycle. You will provide both strategic and operational leadership, with a strong focus on quality assurance, academic governance, assessments, and graduation.

This is an excellent opportunity to make an immediate impact, leading service improvement and supporting institutional priorities during a period of transition.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Support the strategic development of Academic Registry services
  • Lead improvements to systems, processes, and digital delivery
  • Deputise for the Academic Registrar at senior forums

Quality Assurance & Enhancement

  • Oversee academic quality assurance processes and frameworks
  • Lead programme validation, review, and external examiner processes
  • Support continuous improvement in academic standards and student experience

Operations & Service Delivery

  • Oversee student records, assessments, and graduation functions
  • Ensure effective and compliant registry operations
  • Lead the planning and delivery of graduation ceremonies

Governance & Policy

  • Support the development and implementation of academic policies
  • Contribute to effective academic governance and committee processes

Leadership & Management

  • Provide leadership and line management to registry teams
  • Drive performance, engagement, and service excellence

Data & Systems

  • Ensure data accuracy, reporting, and effective use of systems
  • Provide insights to support planning and decision-making

External Engagement

  • Liaise with sector bodies and regulatory organisations
  • Ensure compliance with evolving higher education requirements

About You

Essential

  • Degree-level qualification
  • Extensive experience leading academic quality and/or registry functions in higher education
  • Strong knowledge of UK HE regulation, policy, and compliance (e.g. QAA, OfS)
  • Experience of academic governance, quality assurance, and student lifecycle services
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and leadership skills
  • Awareness of sector developments and relevant legislation (e.g. GDPR, education policy)
  • Flexible approach to meet the needs of an interim role

Desirable

  • Professional qualification in higher education, quality assurance, or leadership
