Health Care Assistant – Seizure Support

Location: Crawley

Salary: Up to £20 per hour

Hours: Part-time – 20 hours per week

Contract: Fixed-term

About the Role

We are seeking a caring, reliable and experienced Health Care Assistant to provide dedicated support to a student with a seizure condition within one of the renowned Further Education setting.

The successful candidate will work closely with the student, college staff, parents/carers and relevant healthcare professionals to promote the student’s health, safety, independence and participation in college life.

You will provide calm and appropriate support before, during and following seizure episodes, in accordance with the student’s individual healthcare plan and agreed medical protocols. You will also support the student to access lessons, activities and the wider college environment safely and confidently.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one health and personal support to the student throughout the college day, as required.
• Monitor the student’s wellbeing and recognize signs that may indicate an approaching seizure.
• Respond calmly and appropriately during and following seizure episodes, following the student’s individual healthcare plan and agreed emergency procedures.
• Administer prescribed emergency medication where trained and authorized to do so, in accordance with relevant procedures.
• Record and report seizures, medication and relevant health information accurately and confidentially.
• Support the student to attend lessons, practical activities, social opportunities and other college activities.
• Promote independence, dignity, choice and inclusion at all times.
• Liaise appropriately with teaching staff, the college safeguarding/health team, parents/carers and healthcare professionals.
• Contribute to reviews of the student’s support arrangements and healthcare plan where appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with college policies, safeguarding requirements, health and safety procedures and professional boundaries.
• Undertake relevant training and maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills relating to seizure support.

Previous experience supporting individuals with epilepsy, seizures, complex health needs, disabilities or additional needs would be advantageous.

A relevant healthcare, care or support qualification and/or experience working in a health or educational setting is desirable. Training in seizure management and emergency medication will be provided where required.
