About the Role

We’re looking for a compassionate and motivated Refuge Case Worker to join our Barnet-based refuge service, providing vital support to women who have experienced domestic abuse.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the refuge, managing admissions, supporting residents with their practical and emotional needs, and helping them begin their journey to safety and independence. Working across two sites, you’ll hold a caseload of residents and support them through recovery, resettlement, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional and practical support to women who have experienced domestic abuse.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments, safety planning, and individual support plans.
  • Manage referrals, admissions, and move-on processes for residents.
  • Support residents with housing, benefits, and accessing community resources.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures.
  • Assist in the collection of rent and service charges and ensure refuge facilities are well-maintained.
  • Organise and participate in house meetings, empowering residents to contribute to refuge life.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Contribute to health and safety checks, incident reporting, and risk management.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training.

About You

You’ll be someone who is empathetic, resilient, and highly organised, with a genuine passion for supporting women to rebuild their lives.

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals, ideally those affected by domestic or sexual violence.
  • Experience working in supported accommodation or similar settings.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding adults and children.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good IT and administrative skills, including use of Microsoft Office.

What We Offer

  • A supportive, trauma-informed working environment.
  • Regular supervision, reflective practice, and opportunities for professional development.
  • The chance to make a real difference to the lives of women and children impacted by domestic abuse.
