Who we are

Winner of the Best Place to Work at the Tech South West Awards 2025, City College Plymouth offers a culture the College is proud of. Our core values of Respect, Ownership and Integrity help create an environment that supports a passion for teaching and learning. These values guide our work as we enrich our community through knowledge, experience and skills so every student can achieve their best.

As one of the country’s largest providers of quality education and training, City College Plymouth is entering a period of transition to enable us to propel education into the future. We take pride in offering a learning environment and organisational culture that contribute positively to the health, wellbeing and sustainability of our community and enable all our students and staff to achieve their full potential.

The Role

We’re seeking an inspirational Director of Estates & Facilities Management to drive the strategic development, performance and sustainability of our multi-site estate.

As a key member of the College’s leadership team, you’ll lead the next phase of estate transformation, ensuring our campuses provide safe, innovative and exceptional environments that enable students and staff to thrive.

What you’ll do

  • Shape and deliver our Estates Strategy
  • Lead capital projects and campus development programmes
  • Drive operational excellence across estates, facilities, maintenance, cleaning and security services
  • Champion sustainability and support our Net Zero ambitions
  • Ensure compliance, safety and value for money across the estate
  • Develop and inspire high-performing teams

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring significant senior leadership experience in estates, facilities management or a related field, with a proven track record of delivering strategic change, managing complex operations and leading major projects.

You’ll be a collaborative, forward-thinking leader who can turn vision into action and create environments that support outstanding learning and student experience.

What Will You Bring to the Role

  • Strategic Thinking: Translate strategic estate plans into operational delivery programmes, ensuring priorities are achievable within available resources.
  • Collaborating: Oversee the operational management of all estate and facilities services including maintenance, cleaning, security, and site services.
  • Delivering: Ensure buildings and infrastructure are well maintained, compliant and fit for purpose.
  • Interpreting Quantitative Data: Manage estates and facilities budgets effectively, ensuring value for money and financial control.

Interviews are currently planned to be held on the 16th & 17th of September 2026.

Benefits

City College Plymouth will offer you;

  • Holiday: 35 days plus bank holidays and College Closure over Christmas.
  • Career development opportunities.
  • Generous contributions towards your pension.
  • Free tea, coffee and lunch in our dedicated staff lounge.

How we recruit

We aim to recruit based on potential, not experience. We are interested in seeing your behaviours in action and how they will help you become successful at City College Plymouth, giving everyone the opportunity to show their potential, regardless of background or experience.

After completing our online application form, you will be asked to complete an online assessment within a few days of this Vacancy closing. This assessment asks you no questions at all. Instead, it observes your behaviour and natural strengths in action, with a series of engaging, intuitive tasks. You will receive a report outlining your behaviours once you have completed the assessment, regardless of whether you progress to the next stage or not, providing you with some feedback.

The College welcomes applications from service leavers and the Armed Forces community, and supports those service leavers who are Reservists in any of the Armed Forces.

The College reserves the right to close this advertisement early if sufficient applications have been received.
