Digital Communications & Website Manager – 6 month contract

Pay rate: £200-£250 per day via umbrella

Location: Glasgow or Edinburgh, hybrid working

Reporting to: Senior Digital Communications Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Digital Communications & Website Manager to lead the day-to-day management, maintenance, and development of the organisations external websites. Reporting to the Senior Digital Communications Manager, this role is central to ensuring our digital platforms are secure, accessible, high-performing, and aligned with organisational objectives. The role also requires some duties around management and stewardship of their social media channels.

You will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, content governance knowledge, and stakeholder engagement skills. The role involves working collaboratively with teams across IT, Transformation, Customer Experience and Communications as well as with external agencies and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical management

  • Oversee the performance, stability, and security of external websites
  • Collaborate with IT, Transformation teams, and external agencies on deployments, updates, integrations, and technical maintenance
  • Provide first-line technical support for CMS users and website-related issues
  • Implement minor technical or design updates using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript where required
  • Perform administrative duties related to the organisations digital presence

CMS management and development

  • Administer and continuously develop the CMS to meet organisational needs
  • Manage user access, permissions, and editorial workflows
  • Work with developers to scope and deliver new features and functionality

Content governance

  • Conduct regular content audits to ensure accuracy, relevance, and consistency
  • Develop and maintain editorial schedules across departments
  • Establish and manage web content policies, including tone of voice, accessibility, and house style (WCAG 2.2)
  • Deliver training and guidance to colleagues on producing effective web content

Content creation and optimisation

  • Write, edit, and optimise user-focused web content aligned with brand and communications strategy
  • Source and manage visual assets for online use
  • Ensure content is optimised for SEO, accessibility, and usability
  • Support the wider team with social media content creation, publishing and administration

User Experience and Analytics

  • Produce sitemaps and visual website structures to improve navigation
  • Monitor website performance using analytics tools and recommend improvements
  • Gather user insights through surveys, feedback, and usability testing

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Align website activity with wider communications campaigns and organisational priorities
  • Partner with IT, Customer Experience, and Transformation teams to support digital integration
  • Manage relationships with external agencies, developers, and suppliers
  • Stay up to date with emerging web technologies, accessibility standards, and digital best practice

About You

We are looking for a strategic and detail-oriented digital professional with strong technical and content management expertise.

You will have:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Proven experience managing large, content-driven websites and CMS platforms
  • Strong understanding of website architecture, hosting environments, and web development processes
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and APIs
  • Excellent web copywriting and editing skills
  • Experience conducting content audits and managing editorial workflows
  • Knowledge of SEO, web accessibility (WCAG 2.2), and data privacy best practice
  • Experience using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager, and Search Console
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
