About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Biology Lecturer to join our Biosciences Department on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will work alongside existing academic staff to support the delivery of our Level 3 Foundation Programme for students commencing their studies in October.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic teaching team, supporting students as they prepare for progression into higher education programmes in the biological sciences.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching Biology on the Level 3 Foundation Programme.
  • Designing, planning and delivering engaging teaching sessions.
  • Developing and marking assessments.
  • Providing academic support and guidance to students.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure an excellent student experience.
  • Undertaking associated administrative duties related to teaching and assessment.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  1. Good first degree, plus a PhD or equivalent applied/professional experience in a relevant field.
  2. Proven effective Biology teaching skills and relevant teaching experience, particularly in lecture/class lesson planning, group management and appropriate methods of assessment.
  3. Demonstrable knowledge of biological sciences relevant to Level 3 and Foundation-level study.
  4. Ability to take full responsibility for the design, delivery, planning and co-ordination of teaching units on a course, module or programme of study, and for related assessments.
  5. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Effective organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise workload, alongside a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  7. Ability to deal with reactive requests on a regular or daily basis, including those relating to teaching, student support and administrative tasks.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively within a teaching team.
