About the Role
We are seeking a skilled, qualified, and enthusiastic Carpentry Lecturer to join our teaching team. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality theoretical and practical training in carpentry and joinery, equipping learners with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence required to succeed in the construction industry.
The ideal candidate will have strong industry experience, excellent practical skills, and a passion for teaching, training, and developing future construction professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging theoretical and practical lessons in carpentry and joinery.
- Teach learners how to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and measurements.
- Demonstrate carpentry techniques, including cutting, shaping, assembling, fixing, and finishing timber components.
- Train learners in the use of hand tools, power tools, machinery, and workshop equipment.
- Teach skills in setting out, timber framing, roofing, flooring, door and window installation, and other carpentry activities.
- Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, teaching materials, and practical assessment tasks.
- Assess learners’ practical work and theoretical knowledge, providing constructive feedback.
- Monitor learner progress, maintain accurate records, and support learners in achieving their qualifications.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, workshop procedures, and safe working practices.
- Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and workshop facilities in a safe and organised condition.
- Support curriculum development and ensure training reflects current construction industry practices.
- Promote professionalism, teamwork, problem-solving, and good workmanship among learners.
Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant qualification in Carpentry, Joinery, Woodworking, or a related construction discipline.
- Proven practical experience in carpentry and joinery within the construction industry.
- A recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent, is desirable.
- Relevant vocational assessor qualifications are an advantage.
- Experience delivering vocational training or supervising apprentices is beneficial.
- Good knowledge of carpentry tools, materials, construction methods, and health and safety requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction specifications.
- Strong communication, organisation, and classroom management skills.
