Financial Separation Consultant

Up to £500 per day | Outside IR35 | Six-month contract

Edinburgh or Basingstoke | Flexible hybrid working and travel

A major engineering business is restructuring into four separate legal trading entities. We are recruiting a Financial Separation Consultant to lead the financial separation of one business pillar. This is a hands-on delivery role. You will assess what needs to be separated, establish the financial structure and help create an independently operating entity.

The business needs someone who has completed this type of separation before. You could come from engineering, utilities, banking, financial services, private equity or another complex group environment.

The sector is flexible. Direct experience of business separation, carve-outs or legal entity creation is essential.

The role

As Financial Separation Consultant, you will:

  • Lead the financial separation of one business pillar.
  • Establish the structure required for a new legal trading entity.
  • Separate financial reporting, budgets, costs, assets and liabilities.
  • Design the chart of accounts and entity-level reporting arrangements.
  • Establish cost-allocation and intercompany processes.
  • Support ERP and finance-system separation or implementation.
  • Identify dependencies across finance, tax, legal, IT and operations.
  • Develop appropriate financial controls, governance and reporting processes.
  • Create a practical implementation plan and drive delivery.
  • Ensure the new entity can operate independently from the existing group.

About you

You must have previously:

  • Separated a business, division or substantial business unit.
  • Helped establish a new legal entity or standalone operation.
  • Led a finance workstream within a carve-out, divestment or restructuring programme.
  • Designed and implemented new financial processes and controls.
  • Worked across finance, ERP, legal, tax and operational teams.
  • Taken ownership of a complex project with limited existing structure.

You may have experience within:

  • Private equity or portfolio businesses
  • Banking or financial services
  • Utilities or infrastructure
  • Engineering or manufacturing
  • Energy, telecoms or transport
  • Transaction services or finance transformation

A professional accounting qualification would be beneficial, however, demonstrable separation and implementation experience is more important.

Contract details

  • Six-month initial contract
  • Outside IR35
  • Up to £500 per day
  • Based from Edinburgh or Basingstoke
  • Flexible office attendance
  • Some business travel will be required
  • Immediate or short-notice availability preferred

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a significant business separation. You will help turn an existing business pillar into a properly structured, independently operating legal entity.
