Salary: £230.00 – £235.78 per day (umbrella)

Our client is seeking a detail focused and proactive Paralegal to join the legal team supporting the effective delivery of a major public inquiry.

As a Paralegal, you will work closely with the Solicitor to the Inquiry and Counsel teams, supporting the receipt, review, redaction and disclosure of material to Core Participants. You will also work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider paralegal team and provide practical support in the preparation and delivery of substantive hearings.

This is a fast paced role requiring excellent organisation, sound judgement and meticulous attention to detail. You will need to be confident managing competing priorities, raising issues proactively and working collaboratively to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Supporting the Solicitor and Counsel teams in the preparation and effective delivery of Inquiry hearings.
  • Assessing documents for relevance in accordance with established guidance.
  • Reviewing and redacting documents accurately and consistently in line with the Inquiry’s redaction protocols.
  • Identifying and appropriately redacting personal data within the meaning of the Data Protection Act.
  • Working collaboratively with other paralegals and proactively raising concerns, queries and issues during team discussions.
  • Working closely with the Solicitor and Counsel teams to ensure tasks are completed accurately and at pace.
  • Assisting with pre-hearing preparation, including the preparation and organisation of hearing bundles.
  • Supporting the legal team during oral hearings and other substantive Inquiry work.
  • Attending the Bradford Court Hearing Centre and working outside core hours where required, particularly during busy hearing periods.
  • Maintaining excellent information management practices and ensuring documents and information are handled appropriately at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • A Law degree or GDL at 2:1 or above.
  • At least six months’ experience working in a legal environment, or at least three months’ experience gained through a law clinic placement.

Desirable Criteria

The following experience would be advantageous:

  • Previous experience working on a public inquiry, investigation or other large-scale legal matter.
  • Experience using an Electronic Document Management System (EMS).
  • Experience undertaking document review, including:
    • Assessing materials for relevance.
    • Reviewing and applying redactions.
    • Identifying personal or sensitive information.
    • Supporting disclosure processes.
    • Preparing and managing electronic document sets or hearing materials.
