About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Animal Management Lecturer to join a successful Further Education college. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire the next generation of animal care professionals by delivering engaging, industry-relevant teaching across a range of Animal Management programmes.

You will teach learners from Level 1 through to Level 3 (and potentially Higher Education where applicable), combining practical instruction with classroom-based theory to ensure students develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for careers within the animal care industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lessons in Animal Management and Animal Care.
  • Teach a range of topics including:
    • Animal Husbandry
    • Animal Health and Welfare
    • Animal Behaviour
    • Animal Biology and Anatomy
    • Nutrition
    • Handling and Restraint Techniques
    • Conservation and Ecology
    • Health and Safety within Animal Settings
  • Deliver practical sessions involving a variety of domestic, exotic and small animal species where facilities allow.
  • Assess student work in line with awarding body requirements.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support learners to achieve academic and personal targets.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment and progress records.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety and college policies.
  • Participate in team meetings, standardisation activities and CPD.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in Animal Management, Animal Science, Zoology, Veterinary Nursing or a related subject.
  • Relevant industry experience within animal care, veterinary practice, zoological collections, conservation or a related setting.
  • Experience teaching or training young people or adults.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage learners of varying abilities.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable Requirements

  • Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent).
  • Assessor qualification (TAQA, A1, CAVA or equivalent).
  • IQA qualification.
  • Experience delivering BTEC, City & Guilds, T Levels or NCFE Animal Management programmes.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND and EHCPs.
  • Knowledge of current developments within the animal care industry.
