We are seeking an experienced, proactive and highly organised HR Manager to lead and develop the people function, within a school. As HR Manager, you will play a key strategic and operational role, working closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors to deliver an outstanding HR service that supports our staff and contributes to the continued success of the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert HR advice to senior leaders and managers on all aspects of people management.
  • Lead complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence and change management processes.
  • Develop and review HR policies and procedures to reflect current legislation and best practice.
  • Manage the Single Central Record and ensure full compliance with safeguarding requirements.
  • Lead the school’s recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring an excellent candidate experience and robust pre-employment checks.
  • Oversee payroll administration, pensions, staff benefits, pay progression and annual pay awards.
  • Produce workforce data, salary benchmarking and HR reports to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure HR systems and employee records are accurate, secure and compliant with data protection legislation.
  • Coordinate statutory leave, flexible working requests, contractual changes and performance management processes.
  • Support workforce planning and provide staffing updates to Governors.
  • Keep abreast of developments in employment law and safeguarding, advising school leaders on emerging changes.

About You
We are looking for someone who:

  • Has significant HR experience, ideally within an education or public sector setting.
  • Holds a recognised HR qualification (CIPD Level 5 or above is desirable).
  • Has a strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Has experience managing complex employee relations matters confidently and professionally.
  • Understands safeguarding responsibilities within schools, including KCSIE requirements.
  • Has experience of recruitment, payroll administration and pension schemes.
  • Is an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Is highly organised, able to prioritise competing demands and maintain exceptional attention to detail.
  • Can build positive relationships at all levels while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Has experience managing and developing staff.
  • An enhanced DBS check.
