Learning Mentor – Further Education College

Location: Manchester
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (Agency Placement)
Pay Rate: £13.00 – £15.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established Further Education College in Manchester for a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Learning Mentor to join their team from September 2026.

This is a rewarding full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting learners with complex needs, placing care, trust, and meaningful relationships at the heart of their practice to help students overcome barriers and achieve success.

The Role

As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with learners who require additional emotional, social, behavioural, or learning support to fully access education. You will provide consistent, person-centred support, helping students feel safe, understood, and valued throughout their college experience.

You will support learners with a range of complex needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties
  • Trauma-related needs and attachment difficulties
  • Anxiety, low confidence, and emotional regulation needs
  • Communication and interaction difficulties

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group mentoring support tailored to individual needs
  • Building trusting, positive relationships that promote engagement and wellbeing
  • Supporting learners to regulate emotions and develop coping strategies
  • Acting as a consistent, calm, and reassuring presence throughout the college day
  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and personal development
  • Supporting behaviour in a respectful, nurturing, and trauma-informed way
  • Working closely with tutors, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to support progress
  • Helping create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Promoting student wellbeing, attendance, and positive engagement

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience supporting young people or adults with complex needs in education, care, youth work, or support settings
  • A naturally caring, patient, and empathetic approach
  • The ability to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable learners
  • A calm, consistent, and emotionally resilient manner
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting learners to overcome barriers
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential
