lient Job Description – Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) – Changing Pathways

Role: Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) – Unqualified

Client: Changing Pathways

Location: Hybrid – Home-based with community visits across Basildon, Harlow, Epping, Brentwood and occasional visits to Thurrock

Contract: 3 months (with potential extension)

Pay Rate: £15.00 per hour + holiday pay

Role Overview

Changing Pathways is seeking an experienced Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) to provide support to individuals affected by domestic abuse. This is a predominantly remote and community-based role, requiring the successful candidate to work independently while managing a caseload of low to medium-risk clients across the Essex area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of low to medium-risk domestic abuse clients.
  • Deliver tailored emotional and practical support, including safety planning and risk assessments.
  • Conduct community-based appointments and home visits across Basildon, Harlow, Epping, Brentwood and occasional visits within Thurrock.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and timely case records using the Oasis case management system.
  • Work independently in a remote and lone-working environment, prioritising client safety and wellbeing.
  • Signpost and refer clients to relevant statutory and voluntary support services where appropriate.
  • Liaise with partner agencies to ensure coordinated support for service users.
  • Ensure all safeguarding procedures and organisational policies are followed.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience supporting victims/survivors of domestic abuse is essential.
  • Previous experience in an IDVA or similar domestic abuse support role.
  • Experience using the Oasis case management system is required if the candidate has not previously worked with Changing Pathways.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a remote and community-based setting.
  • Strong communication, organisation and case management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (or ability to travel across the required locations).

Qualifications

  • IDVA qualification is not essential.
  • Candidates without a formal IDVA qualification will be considered, provided they have relevant domestic abuse experience and meet the system experience requirements.

Additional Information

  • Hybrid role with home working and regular community visits.
  • Lone working is a key aspect of the position.
  • Initial 3-month contract with the possibility of extension based on service needs and performance.
