SEN Teaching Assistant – Academic Sixth Form College

Pay Rate: £13.00 – £15.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established academic sixth form college in Marple, Manchester for a committed and supportive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with additional learning needs in a focused academic environment. The role will involve supporting students with high-functioning Autism and moderate learning difficulties across a range of A-Level and academic courses.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the college’s SEN department to provide tailored support that enables students to access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full academic potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and learning difficulties
- Supporting students within lessons to maintain engagement, organisation, and focus
- Assisting learners with communication, emotional regulation, and independent study skills
- Encouraging positive social interaction and student confidence
- Supporting students with classroom routines, transitions, and academic tasks
- Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and support staff to implement individual support strategies
- Promoting a calm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEN, Autism, or learning difficulties in an education or care setting
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students and staff
- A good understanding of supporting students with additional needs within an academic setting
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning are desirable but not essential
