Job Purpose
The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Officer is responsible for promoting and ensuring the safety, protection, and emotional wellbeing of all students within the college. The role involves identifying risks, supporting vulnerable students, managing safeguarding concerns, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding & Child Protection

Act as a key point of contact for safeguarding concerns and disclosures.

Identify and assess risks to student safety, including abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Follow and implement safeguarding policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Liaise with external agencies (e.g., social services, law enforcement, health services) when necessary.

Maintain accurate, confidential records of safeguarding cases.
Student Wellbeing
-
Provide emotional support and guidance to students facing personal, social, or mental health challenges.

Develop and deliver wellbeing programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns.

Promote a positive and inclusive college environment that supports diversity and equality.

Support students in crisis and coordinate appropriate interventions.
Policy & Compliance

Ensure the college complies with all safeguarding legislation and guidelines.

Regularly review and update safeguarding and wellbeing policies.

Contribute to audits, inspections, and reporting requirements.
Training & Awareness

Deliver safeguarding and wellbeing training to staff and students.

Raise awareness of safeguarding issues such as bullying, harassment, online safety, and mental health.

Support staff in understanding their safeguarding responsibilities.
Collaboration

Work closely with academic staff, counselors, and administrative teams.

Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case reviews.

Build relationships with community organizations and support services.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field.

Experience in safeguarding, child protection, or student welfare.

Strong understanding of safeguarding laws and best practices.

Experience working with young people in an educational or care setting.
