Contract Internal Communications Officer / Intranet Manager

4-Month Contract | Inside IR35 | SC Cleared | London (Hybrid) 3 days in office, 2 days wfh. £550-£580 per day

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Internal Communications Officer / Intranet Manager to support the launch and ongoing development of a new intranet platform within a public sector organisation.

This role sits at the heart of a wider internal communications transformation programme, driven by senior leadership, and will play a critical part in ensuring the successful rollout of Phase 1 of a new intranet alongside the delivery of a clear, engaging internal communications strategy.

Location: London City Centre (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Contract Length: 4 months
Engagement: Inside IR35
Security Clearance: Active SC clearance required (must be transferable or already in place)


The Role

You will be responsible for completing the intranet content design and build, leading the launch, and establishing a roadmap of enhancements. Alongside this, you will develop and deliver an effective internal communications strategy that aligns with organisational goals and values.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing the internal communications strategy, including key messaging, channels and tactics

  • Creating and delivering engaging internal communications content (newsletters, intranet content, presentations, email communications)

  • Designing and managing intranet Information Architecture (IA) and navigation

  • Building templates for content types and populating with existing content

  • Applying metadata, tagging, alt text and cross-links to improve accessibility and search

  • Ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA and GDS standards

  • Managing and maintaining the intranet to ensure content is accurate, accessible and user-friendly

  • Upskilling and mentoring content owners to manage and extend their content areas

  • Developing and delivering a roadmap of intranet enhancements

  • Monitoring and measuring internal communications effectiveness and intranet usage

  • Driving employee engagement and continuous UX improvements


Skills & Experience Required

  • 3+ years’ experience in internal communications, corporate communications or a related field

  • Excellent writing and content creation skills

  • Strong experience designing and managing intranet platforms

  • Proficiency with CMS platforms (Drupal preferred)

  • Solid understanding of Information Architecture, content structure and template creation

  • Experience working to GDS standards and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility guidelines

  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders across technical and business teams

  • Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to work to tight deadlines

  • Experience with web design standards, UX principles and basic markup languages (HTML/CSS)
