Job Title: Housing Officer

Role Purpose
The Housing Officer will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, customer-focused housing management service to residents across the borough. The role involves managing a patch of properties, ensuring tenancy sustainment, addressing tenancy breaches, and working proactively with residents and partner agencies to maintain safe, well-managed communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a designated patch of council or temporary accommodation properties, acting as the main point of contact for residents.
- Deliver a high-quality tenancy management service, including tenancy sign-ups, successions, assignments, and terminations.
- Respond to and resolve tenancy breaches, including anti-social behaviour, rent arrears (in partnership with income teams), unauthorised occupation, and safeguarding concerns.
- Carry out estate inspections and property visits, ensuring health and safety, cleanliness, and communal standards are maintained.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints, member enquiries, and service requests in line with council policies and procedures.
- Support tenancy sustainment through early intervention, advice, and referrals to support services where appropriate.
- Work closely with internal teams and external agencies, including repairs, ASB teams, social services, police, and voluntary sector partners.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records on housing management systems.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with housing legislation, council policies, and best practice.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring services are accessible and responsive to residents’ needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience working as a Housing Officer or in a similar housing management role within a local authority or housing association.
- Strong knowledge of housing management functions, including tenancy enforcement, ASB, and estate management.
- Experience managing a caseload and prioritising work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deal effectively with challenging and vulnerable residents.
- Ability to work independently, using initiative and sound judgement.
- Confident IT skills and experience using housing management systems.
Desirable:
- Experience working specifically within a London local authority.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and partnership working.
- Relevant housing qualification (e.g. CIH Level 4 or above).
- Experience of hybrid working and mobile service delivery.

- Hybrid working arrangements apply, with regular attendance required across the borough.
- The role may involve occasional evening or out-of-hours work, depending on service needs.
